Glossary: S

SAPweb
MIT-built web interface to SAP that provides procurement, journal voucher, credit card, and email notification functionality to end users.
SAPweb Self Service
MIT-built web site which allows faculty and staff to manage their personal MIT business such as employee benefits and telephone directory information.
Screen Real Estate
Space available within the browser window for the web developer to place text and graphical images.
Selective Test
Testing the modified software with a subset of established test cases.
Software Feature
A product characteristic specified or implied by the users' requirements.
Software Reliability
The probability that software will not cause a system failure for a specified time under specific conditions.
Software Tool
A program used to help develop, test, analyze, or maintain another computer program.
Specifications
Product requirements requested by users based upon their needs.
Stakeholder
Someone who may be affected by project outcomes because they have a vested interest in the project deliverables and/or their impact on the department. Stakeholders can provide content or information to the sponsor and team, and must buy into solutions generated by the project. Another stakeholder's responsibility can be to implement organizational or procedural changes that result from the project.
Stress Test
Testing the limits of a system based upon a large volume of user input.
System
An implementation of a whole set of hardware and software components, like the SAP PS1 system which describes the R/3, ITS, and Athena server combo all working together to deliver SAPweb functionality.
System Reliability
Probability that a system will perform a required task or mission for a specified time in a specified environment.
System Test
The process of testing an integrated hardware and software system to verify that the system meets its specified requirements.
