Le Palais Royal, erected by Louis XIII’s minister Cardinal Richelieu, served as home for Anne d’Autriche and the future Louis XIV during the 17th century after Louis XIII’s death. It now houses the French State Counsel, a group of non-elected officials that have enormous power in the French government. In the Palace’s common square facing la Comédie Française, there are very controversial columns and fountains, that, when lit at night, provide a much juxtaposed display of modern art.
