Project Abstract:
The construction of jack-ups drilling rigs requires careful planning
and execution to achieve a short turnaround time (TAT) to remain
competitive in the industry. This project aims to study into the
internal and external supply chain network of planning and
execution of steel material flow. The objective is to optimize the
supply chain network so as to generate cost savings or reduce cycle
time. In tactical level, procurement strategy and inventory
management were studied to smooth the steel material flow in
the downstream process. On top of that, optimization on upstream
process of network logistics was investigated, which involves looking
into the issues like supplier selection, routing and transportation
of incoming steel material from port. Lastly, at the operational level
(downstream stage), the feasible improvements to increase the
throughput of one of the job shops were also investigated.
