Overview
The DISTRIBUTED POWER INDUSTRY OF THE FUTURE project will evaluate the technological, regulatory and management aspects of alternative distributed power industry architectures via two sub-projects. The titles of these two sub-projects are:

STRATEGIES
The first sub-project will focus on the broader issues regarding the structure (institutional, regulatory, etc.) of future distributed power industries with an emphasis on the economic and technological performance of alternative "architectures." An examination of alternative structures is necessary as different regions begin with different regulatory histories, institutional arrangements, and technological foundations. The second sub-project focuses on prospective management strategies for those companies providing services, systems, and technologies in a competitive distributed power industry. This sub-project includes issues of technology and asset management associated not only with the dynamics and opportunities presented by restructuring itself, but also in the area of long-term, continuous improvement of distributed power, energy and information technologies, and their impact on the management and continuous improvement of the "lower voltage" industry.
The project is currently supported by ABB and involves ABB personnel from Corporate Research and Power T&D. ABB, and MIT's intent is to transform the current project into a consortium sponsored effort beginning in 2001. Key Personnel
