G. The Function of the On and Off Channels in Vision
The
top two panels in Figure 21 show that the
center responses of these red ON and OFF-center ganglion cells are attenuated
when the surround is activated by a complementary color. Then, when APB
is administered to the retina, responses of ON retinal ganglion cell are
totally blocked, whereas the responses of the OFF retinal ganglion cell
are largely unaffected; the OFF cell retains its center-surround antagonism.
