MIT got off to a much better start this game
with their aggressive man-to-man defense that forced several
Newbury turnovers, allowing the Engineers to jump out to an
early double-digit lead. With the strong inside play of forwards
sophomore Kyle Doherty, junior Boris
Paskalev, junior captain Sebastian
Heersink, and freshman Mike Huhs,
MIT again controlled the offensive and defensive boards. Bombing
away from the outside was freshman Adam
Gibbons and sophomore Andrew Tsai
who came off the bench to hit two three-pointers. After a
buzzer-beater by junior captain Neal
Brenner, the Engineers had a commanding 45-22 lead going
into halftime.
With the game already in hand, MIT nonetheless
continued to pressure Newbury College. With strong on the
ball defense from freshman Danny Kanamori
and junior captain Alex Phillips,
the Engineers continued to force many turnovers. After some
more good shooting from the outside and continued dominance
in the paint, MIT coasted to victory.
